Schedule Routine Maintenance near me

We never want to be the bearers of bad news, but winter is right around the corner, and all of us here in Michigan know that it can be particularly brutal up here in our beloved state. Not only is that true for us as people, but that remains true to the vehicles that we drive, too. Extreme cold can do a lot of damage to the vehicles that we drive around in, and now is the right time to try and make sure that they are as prepared as possible for when snow begins to fall, and the weather turns for the next few months. At Dick Scott Motor Mall, we try to do everything in our power to give our customers the information they need to make the best decisions possible for their lives. Today we're here to give you some top tips for vehicle prep this winter. Let's stay warm, and avoid any major issues this winter!

Check the tires

The very first thing that we recommend having checked for your vehicle is the tires. Many people tend to overlook tires, and as a result, that can lead to a lot of negative consequences. Tires are vital to the health and performance of your machine, and they are what provide you with all of the traction you need in snowy and icy driving conditions. You will not only want to make sure that the tires are inflated properly, but the tire treads need to be inspected, too. Anything that doesn't have the tread depth you need should absolutely be changed. The service technicians in our service center can give you all of the assistance you need, and if you need new tires, we have those, too!

Change windshield wipers

Many people might not be aware of this, but it's often recommended that windshield wipers be switched out around every six months. Obviously, this will vary for a number of reasons, but we want to remind you about their importance in the winter. They are responsible for you being able to see out of your vehicle during major snowstorms, and if you have wipers that can't do the job, you will be in serious trouble. So, we recommend buying new wipers and installing them on! You never want to take any chances when it comes to visibility.

Test battery

We've discussed the tires and the windshield wipers, but another key component that can be compromised in winter is the car battery. Extreme cold can cause the battery to lose all of its charge, leaving you completely stranded. That's why it's incredibly important to have your battery tested before it gets cold. Our service technicians can let you know how your battery will hold up this winter, and if it's perhaps time to buy a new battery to have installed. Any battery that is over 5 years old should really be tested to ensure that it's still holding up.

Emergency kit

The last thing we want to remind you about for prepping your vehicle is ensuring that you are packing the right things in your emergency kit. Along with a phone charger, flashlight, extra batteries, and sand/salt, you should also be focused on keeping warm and fed. This includes including a blanket, an extra set of clothes, bottled water, and non-perishable food items. You need to be prepared for anything!
