So, please continue reading below to learn a few of our favorite road trip destinations for the fall season!

Petoskey

Following the Tunnel of Trees along M-119 from Harbor Springs to Cross Village gives you breathtaking views of the fall foliage colors as well as Lake Michigan. Along the nearly 30-mile route, you can stop in Petoskey. Petoskey, Michigan is a beautiful area all year round, but it is most charming in the fall. You can find the historic Gaslight Village, where you can find unique small businesses and shops. To experience Lake Michigan and fall foliage to its fullest, be sure to visit Bayfront Park. Also, the Bear Park Valley Recreation Area provides beautiful walking trails and rushing rapids.

Fort Gratiot Lighthouse

The Fort Gratiot Lighthouse in Port Huron is a great place to start a journey on Lake Huron. The bright blue waters of Lake Huron are beautifully contrasted by the beautiful red, gold, and greens of the changing leaves. Fort Gratiot is Michigan's oldest lighthouse and is located right where the St. Clair River meets Lake Huron. From Fort Gratiot, you can view the international Blue Water Bridge that passes between the United States and Canada. Looking for a bite to eat near Fort Gratiot? Be sure to visit the Vintage Tavern for good eats in a relaxed, historic setting!

Upper Pininsula

Michigan's upper peninsula offers gorgeous scenery all year round. In the fall, however, there are certain areas that stand out! At the peninsula's northwestern edge, you'll find Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park, offering more than 60,000 acres of breathtaking scenery. At the state park, you can find the Lake of Clouds. Views of the lake are available via hiking trails or by car from a scenic overlook. With the fall foliage colors as the backdrop, you truly must see the lake in the fall to believe just how stunning it is. At the southeastern end of the upper peninsula, there are a collection of small towns along the shores of Lake Huron's north coast. These towns offer quiet settings with local eats and small businesses and, of course, beautiful views of the lake with a fall foliage backdrop.
