What 4x4 systems does the Jeep Wrangler use?

The Wrangler's roots can be traced back to World War II when Jeep was tasked with providing the U.S. Army with agile 4x4 vehicles. These roots are held close, as is shown by the Jeep Wrangler's standard 4x4. The first 4x4 system, Command-Trac, comes as standard equipment. Command-Trac is a part-time system, meaning drivers can choose between two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive at speeds up to 55 MPH. Once the system is in four-lock, torque is split evenly between the front and rear axles, with 50% going to the front and 50% going to the rear, giving ultimate on and off-road confidence. Selec-Trac 4x4 is available for some Wrangler trim levels. Selec-Trac gives drivers all-road traction at all times without any input needed. The system senses changes in road conditions and shifts from two-wheel drive to four-wheel drive to counteract slip and regain traction. Exclusive to the Rubicon trim is the Rock-Trac transfer case. Rock-Trac offers a 4:1 low-range gear ratio, making it ideal for crawling over rugged terrain at low speeds while maintaining control.

Engine Options for the 2023 Jeep Wrangler

There is a Jeep Wrangler engine for anyone's needs. Standard equipment for the Wrangler is a 3.6-liter V6 engine which pumps out 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Meanwhile, a turbocharged 2.0L inline-four cylinder engine is available for 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The turbocharged engine is standard on the Sahara and High Altitude trims while optional for all others. Optional for the Sahara, Rubicon, and High Altitude is the all-new 4xe plug-in hybrid system. Mating the turbocharged four-cylinder engine with two electric motors and a rechargeable electric vehicle battery, the Wrangler 4xe lays down an exciting 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of immediate torque. Additionally, the 4xe system gives the Wrangler 49 MPGe and a 370-mile total driving range. Lastly, the Rubicon 392 comes exclusively with a 6.4L HEMI V8 engine, ripping out an enthralling 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, taking you from 0-60 in just 4.5 seconds. The turbocharged, 4xe, and Rubicon 392 models come standard with 8-speed automatic transmission. Meanwhile, the V6 engine comes standard with a 6-speed manual transmission.
