Fall Car Car Tasks and Tips:
Infrequent vehicle use: If you are the type that flies south for the winter to stay warm while leaving your vehicle behind or those that hunker down as much as possible to stay out of the cold, your vehicle may not be driven as much as it is used to or needs to be. To maintain your vehicle's battery life, we recommend that your vehicle be driven at least once a week for roughly 15 minutes or turn it on (outside of the garage) and let it run for 15 minutes. This can also help avoid flat spots on the tires and avoid brake rotor rust.
Tires: Driving during the winter months can also have an effect on your tires. The temperature fluctuations that we experience throughout the day during the fall and winter months can affect the air pressure of your tires. Each time you climb into your vehicle, take a good look at the tires and make sure to actually check the air pressure often. Improper tire air pressure can impact fuel economy, your alignment, and tire wear and tear. While you are checking on the air pressure, make sure to check out the tread as well! You don't want to be driving around tires that can't offer proper traction.
Battery: We talked about the battery in regards to infrequent vehicle use but you should check on your battery before the real cold weather sets in. The warm weather of the summer and early fall can wreak serious havoc in your battery and its lifespan which can cause it to fail once the weather gets cold. No one ever wants to be stuck on the side of the road in a storm with a dead battery in the middle of winter. If you are not sure what to look for, we can check the battery for you! Â
Wiper Blades: The fall and winter weather bring wet weather from rainstorms to sleet and snow. It is important that your Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep or Ram's wiper blades are up to the task of clearing your windshield for optimum visibility. When checking your wiper blades, look out for tears or cracks that can leave streaks behind. We can switch out these blades with no problem and fall is the perfect time to do so as we suggest getting new blades every six months.
