2021 Jeep Cherokee vs Chevrolet Equinox
When you're in the market for a new SUV, you have many things to consider. What SUV has the best engines? The best features? The best safety systems? With so many makes and models on the market, these can be difficult questions to answer, but we here at Dick Scott Motor Mall want help. We have taken two of the most popular SUVs out there in the 2021 Jeep Cherokee and the Chevrolet Equinox, and compared them in terms of their engine options and features to better understand what SUV you should be driving home.
2021 Jeep Cherokee Power & Handling
Three stark engines are available for the 2021 Jeep Cherokee, and each one comes with the amount of power you would expect from a Jeep vehicle. Kicking things off is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that pumps out a swift 180 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque. When you get to the Latitude Lux trim, you are greeted with a 3.2-liter V6 that rips out 271 horsepower and 239 lb-ft of torque. There is also a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that gives you a spectacular 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Each engine gets a nine-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel-drive. You do have the option of four-wheel-drive on all trims. The Trailhawk comes standard with an advanced four-wheel-drive system.
2021 Chevrolet Equinox Power & Handling
Unfortunately, there is only one available engine for the Equinox, so you're going to be short of choices when it comes to power. The engine available is a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that makes an okay 170 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque. Pairing with this engine is a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel-drive, though you do get the option of four-wheel-drive on every trim that's not named the L. These power numbers are fine, but they are not quite up to what the Cherokee offers. We should also mention that the Cherokee has four-wheel-drive on every trim level.
2021 Jeep Cherokee Features & Design
There are five trims available for the Cherokee, and there is a spectacular amount of tech, luxury, and off-road features available. Starting things is the base Latitude trim which comes standard with power front windows, exterior mirrors with a heating element, supplemental turn signals, courtesy lamps, a rearview camera, and a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Then, the Latitude Plus adds heated front seats, premium-wrapped heated steering wheel, remote start, keyless entry, and push-button start. If you want more luxury features, the new Latitude Lux gives it to you with Nappa leather seats, power front seats with a power lumbar adjuster, and a windshield wiper de-icer. Then there are the off-road features that can be found on the Trailhawk trim as it has an advanced all-wheel-drive system, wider wheels with all-terrain tires, and increased ground clearance. Rounding things out is the Limited, which has leather upholstery, an upgraded driver display in the gauge cluster, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen.
2021 Chevrolet Equinox Features & Design
Only four trims are available for the Equinox, so there are going to be fewer features. The base trim is known as the L, and it comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, heated mirrors, keyless entry and ignition, a height-adjustable driver's seat, and a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Next is the LS, which adds rear floor mats, a compact spare tire, and rear privacy glass. The LT adds more luxury features such as upgraded headlights, added chrome, body-colored exterior trim, satellite radio, and an upgraded driver information screen. The LT comes with a few optional packages, such as the Confidence and Convenience packages which have a remote engine start, dual-zone automatic temperature control, heated front seats, and a power liftgate. At the top of the trim mountain is the Premium which rounds out the lineup with 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, and a wireless charging pad.
Conclusion:
There is a lot to love about both of these SUVs, but we will give the victory to the Jeep Cherokee. The Cherokee comes with more powerful engine options, and there are more advanced features available on the Cherokee than the Equinox. Are you ready to get behind the wheel of the Cherokee?
